How to use it

  1. 1Write one promise. Make it small enough to keep on your worst day: "read 10 pages", not "read more".
  2. 2Fill in Day 1 and Day 66. Day 66 is 65 days after the day you start. Starting on January 1, 2027 means finishing on March 7.
  3. 3Tick a box every day you keep it. Put the sheet where you'll see it: the fridge, your desk, the inside of a closet door.
  4. 4Answer the check-ins. On days 22, 44 and 66, write a line or two. Those notes show you what changed when it stops feeling like change.
  5. 5Missed a day? Keep going. Leave the box blank and tick tomorrow's. One gap doesn't undo the days before it. Try not to miss twice in a row.

Questions

Why 66 days?
In a 2009 study at University College London, people took a median of 66 days for a new daily behavior to feel automatic. The range was wide, from 18 to 254 days, so 66 is a sensible middle target rather than a magic number.
What if I miss a day?
Leave that box blank and carry on. In the same study, missing a single day did not materially change how the habit formed. What hurts is letting one missed day turn into a week.
Which paper size should I print?
US Letter in the US and Canada, A4 almost everywhere else. Each version fits on one page. Print at 100% or choose "Fit to page".
Can I track more than one habit?
Print one sheet per promise. Starting with a single promise is easier; once it feels automatic, add the next one.
Is there a digital version?
Yes. Safar runs the same challenge on your phone: one photo for every day you keep your promise, a streak for each promise, and a reel of your 66 days at the end. It's on iPhone, iPad and Android.

Want proof, not ticks? Track it in Safar.

Take one photo for every day you keep your promise. Safar counts the streak, lines your days up on a wall, and turns all 66 into a reel when you finish.
